Accelerated Reader
Overview
Accelerated Reader is a computerized testing program which helps teachers and parents monitor student's reading progress. Students are awarded points for each test that they take. Points vary from book to book. The more difficult the book the more points assigned.
Students are assigned a reading zone based on their own reading level. The zone is a range of reading levels; for example, a students zone may be 2.3 - 3.2. Each child is assigned a zone by the classroom teacher. Look for your child's zone. As the student's reading improves, the higher the zone will climb. Ask your child what their zone is!
Accelerated Reader Titles
The school district is providing for each school a new version of Accelerated Reader. With this version, our students will have access to every AR test title.

| Student Goals |
Each quarter, students are assigned a goal. The goal is the number of points the student must achieve during the quarter. The goal is based on the reading level of the student and the amount of time allocated to independent reading in the classroom. Grades 2 - 5 spend approximately 30minutes a day reading independently.
Grade
How does Accelerated Reader effect your child's reading grade? For grades K - 5, AR is 1/4 of the reading grade. The AR grade is based on percent of goal achieved for the quarter and the percent correct.
